all aflutter

It is time to tell the tale of Lark and Loon. My intentions were to start this many moons ago, but with hooplas of life (kids, work, holidays) it didn’t happen. Also, if I am going to be nearly honest (and isn’t that what a blogging is all about) I didn’t know quite how to begin. As with all things worthwhile that I have come across in my day, I have learned that jumping in wholly carries the most glory. So here I go.

On a whim we recently piled our six offspring (my four and Gretchen’s two) for a 3-day weekend to the mountains of North Carolina. We prepared for kid-filled frolic and follies in the Mother Nature, as we could then turn our focus to Lark and Loon’s next collection. As good intentions often go awry, this time was no exception. Our children, being Atlanta-bred, lacked the basic winter wares, such as hat, mittens and covered shoes, so their snowy tromps were brisk spurts, followed by rounds of hot cocoa with heaps of mini marshmallows on top and pleas for yet another round of “Go Fish” and “Memory”.

Needless to say, our Lark and Loon collection talk was truncated and has since led to some blurry eyes and mad-dashed brainstorms to get our next collection ready to roll. But all is now spinning and a buzz about the office with unexpected colors, styles and artistic flare to come.

And, really, when looking back on how our weekend unfolded it reminded us yet again of what we have been saying since we launched Lark and Loon in October. We are in this to create comfortable, hip clothes, with an artistic bent to meet the unexpected fun that unravels in a child’s everyday. It seems in the cold months we may need to add a few outliers, such as a hat and scarf to the mix. But for now and in the months to come, we will stick to what we witnessed over this past weekend to be true, children want to get dressed and go and be. We just want to make it a little more interesting and who isn’t in favor of that?
